Continuing Education Adjunct, Massage Therapy

About the Role

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach Massage Therapy courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

CE Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Adjunct (part-time) faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Teaches Massage Therapy courses at a variety of times and locations
• Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
• Utilizes, updates, and submits a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
• Meets with and advises students either before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
• Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
• Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
• Attends annual meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
• Demonstrates and assesses hands-on massage techniques during student internships, including assisting clients with limited mobility

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of non-teaching work experience as a massage therapist
• Certificate in Massage Therapy
• Current Texas TDLR Massage Therapist License in good standing
• Licensed Massage Therapy Instructor (LMTI) credential
• Ability to develop and deliver lesson plans in related content
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Mastery of course content
• Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and Outlook
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative and facilitative style
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide variety of people
• Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
• Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning
• Physical capability to perform standard massage practices, including demonstrating techniques and assisting clients with limited mobility

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching or precepting experience in an academic or internship setting
• Experience using instructional technology
• At least 5 years of practical experience as a massage therapist
• At least 2 years of experience teaching skills in an instructional environment

Skills

• Excellent computer and organizational skills
• Ability to operate equipment typically utilized in the massage therapy field (e.g., massage tables, chairs, hot stone warmers, towel warmers)
• Proficiency with PC workstations running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment

Pay

$56.55 per contact hour.
