Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Assess credit risk on incoming applications in Symitar and MeridianLink.
- Determine financial eligibility for credit using specified limits.
- Complete income verification or financial document analysis as necessary.
- Maintain compliance with lending legislation and institutional guidelines.
- Achieve and exceed performance expectations set by the Credit Union and department.
- Evaluate financial data and assess borrower creditworthiness.
- Evaluate collateral value and assign finance limits within determined limits.
- Maintain timely action on loan requests.
- Collaborate with fellow underwriters for consistent decision-making.
- Make informed lending decisions based on thorough evaluation of financial data.
- Avoid violations of federal and state consumer lending regulations.
- Manage escalations for complex or borderline applications.
- Support audit preparation and contribute to quality control strategies.
- Monitor loan performance trends and contribute to portfolio risk management.
- Research account information and correct discrepancies as needed.
Job Qualifications (Skills)
- Work within the consumer lending operating system, credit union core system, and internal internet and reference sites.
- Maintain an updated knowledge of consumer lending products, policies, and procedures.
- Understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Analyze statistics and financial data.
- Interact with other credit union areas and vendors professionally.
- Work within precise standardized guidelines.
- Take initiative to resolve problems or unique circumstances.
Job Qualifications (Education/Experience)
- Consumer Loan Underwriter I: Two-year college level of language, math, and reasoning skills; one to three years of relevant experience.
- Consumer Loan Underwriter II: Two-year college level of language, math, and reasoning skills; three to five years of relevant experience.
- Senior Consumer Loan Underwriter: Four-year college level of language, math, and reasoning skills; five years or more of relevant experience.
Working Conditions
- Occasional travel to branch locations or community events.
- Option for a hybrid work schedule.
- Occasional work over normal hours and Saturday work schedules.
- Primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting up to 5 lbs.
- Regular, reliable, and timely attendance required.
