About the role
The Consumer Loan Underwriter I position at Velera is available for second shift work from Tuesday to Saturday, 1PM - 10PM CST. This role evaluates loan applications, makes decisions based on credit history, and monitors the quality and accuracy of loan applications processed by contact center representatives.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates loan applications for quality, accuracy, and makes decisions based on a review of the applicant’s credit history and guidelines/policies of the client institution.
- Supports the business by making phone, Internet, indirect, ExpressLink, and data entry loan applications.
- Maintains the quality, efficiency, and accuracy of loan applications taken by contact center representatives.
- Resolves customer and financial institution issues, critical issues, and department workflow to meet departmental/team goals.
- Provides ongoing support of cross-sell products and reports risks to the appropriate team and management.
- Assists contact center representatives with lending questions, provides support to new technology and client programs, and assists with training.
- Maintains quality and loan standards by monitoring loan applications and interacting with credit unions regarding member/customer issues.
- Assists department members to minimize errors and maintain reasonable control of all departmental activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of high school or equivalent required.
- Associates degree preferred.
- One year experience as a Lending Underwriter required.
- One year of Contact Center experience in a loan Contact Center position preferred.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Lending Underwriting best practices.
- Knowledge of the Contact Center loan application processing.
- Knowledge of all facets of the indirect and direct lending process including their differences.
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Effective communication in both verbal and written formats.
- Demonstrated understanding of Credit and Lending.
- Demonstrated underwriting skills including risk assessment and capacity ratio assessment.
- Ability to use judgmental risk evaluation to determine an appropriate loan decision.
- Ability to read and evaluate text and non-text credit files for all three CRAs.
- Ability to adapt underwriting profile to accommodate numerous different financial institutions.
- Ability to monitor several different Remote Login indirect loan queues in addition to internet and phone applications.
- Ability to interpret credit bureau information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of materials handled.
- Ability to be flexible and work under high pressure in a complex environment.
- Ability to work autonomously without the need for constant supervision.

Pay
$23.17 - $29.52 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
Schedule
Second shift schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 1PM - 10PM CST.
