About the role

Positions allocable to this class provide specialized consultative services on a per visit basis.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical services in a specialized field.
• Provides specialized consultation to other physicians and related professional personnel.
• Counsels and advises on or recommends solutions utilizing knowledge of theory or principles of specific discipline or field of specialization.

Requirements

• Successfully fulfilled a residency accredited by an American Specialty Board in one or more specialties*
• Residencies may include Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Family Practice, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, OB-GYN, Pathology, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine.
• License(s): California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
• Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Desirable Qualification

Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualification in excess of the requirement: Specialized experience beyond board certification.

Special Requirement Information

• Equivalent training is defined as that training which the appropriate American Certifying Board formally recognizes in writing as being equivalent.
• For appointments to the specialty of Emergency Medicine, equivalent training will be that training and/or experience approved by the Director of Health Services.

Information Pertaining To The Completion Of Residency Program

Applicants who will successfully complete their medical residency program approved by an American Specialty Board within 6 (six) months of filing may compete in this examination; however, the names of such candidates will be withheld from the certification list pending receipt of certification for completion of the required residency program.

Information pertaining to the required California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate: Applicants who have the required California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California need to attach a legible copy of their certification to their application or email it to the analyst at hhocking@dhs.lacounty.gov within seven (7) calendar days of filing your application.

Special Requirement Information

The required license and/or certificate needs to be current and unrestricted; conditional, provisional, probationary or restricted licenses and/or certificates cannot be accepted.

Physical Class

This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Shift

Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
