Constuction Estimator

Job Summary

Old Dominion Heat Trace is seeking an Estimator to join their team. The Estimator will prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.

About the Role

This position is responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and other related costs while supporting project success through detailed cost analysis and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Manage bid pricing from all vendors
• Review documentation (e.g., plans, specifications), communicate with the vendor and contractor, and visit job sites and other venues as needed to ensure understanding of the scope of work and project requirements
• Research the cost of items (e.g., materials, equipment, labor) on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate estimates
• Complete take-offs using onscreen take-off software to gather information needed for bids
• Generate accurate, detailed, and timely estimates and purchase orders for all products
• Prepare and submit bid packages within specified timeframe
• Conduct ongoing cost analysis to verify profitability and adjust estimating procedures when necessary
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and trade partners
• Manage all potential change orders
• Communicate with trade partners and team members throughout all stages of the project to ensure the project stays within budget
• Continually seek and identify opportunities to grow and position the business for success
• Oversee the preparation and maintenance of project logs and directories of suppliers, contractors and other trade partners

Requirements

• At least three years of experience in construction estimating in Heat Trace
• Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Engineering or related field
• Ability to read, understand, and navigate architectural plans and specifications
• Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively
• Considerable knowledge of construction processes
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
• Excellent math and analytical skills
• Detail-orientated and decisive
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player

• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and other trade partners

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climb
• Able to travel to jobsites, meetings, and other destinations as needed
• Able to wear required personal protective equipment
• Able to work with specialized construction equipment, tools, and materials
• Able to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/video
• Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone
• Able to lift & carry items up to 10 lbs

Schedule

The schedule for this position is full-time and in-office based at the company's main headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. Remote work is not available for this role.
