About the role
Range by Quotewell is Quotewell’s programs division, focused on building technology-enabled insurance solutions for complex risks. We are hiring a senior, hands-on Construction Underwriter with deep experience in project excess liability and contractors-related construction risks to support and scale our growing programs business. The ideal candidate combines deep technical coverage expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset and excitement for helping shape a high-growth program platform supported by technology and AI-enabled underwriting workflows.
Responsibilities
- Drive growth by building, managing, and growing strong relationships with wholesale brokers and agent partners to drive profitable business flow.
- Own outcomes by navigating the full underwriting lifecycle from start to finish, ensuring fast, accurate turnaround on every deal while using technology-enabled workflows and underwriting tools to improve efficiency, reduce noise, and accelerate decision-making.
- Operate like an owner by helping scale Kinetic’s construction program from the ground up, establishing strong underwriting practices early, and driving efficiency as the business line grows.
- Shape the platform by partnering with Engineering, Product, and Operations to design and implement tools that make program underwriting in surplus lines smoother and smarter.
Requirements
- 7+ years of underwriting experience in a carrier, MGA, or MGU with a strong record of success in E&S underwriting.
- Ample experience underwriting construction risks, including project excess liability, wrap-ups, and contractor business.
- Strong existing relationships across the wholesale distribution marketplace and a track record of building trusted agent and broker partnerships.
- Deep technical coverage expertise and the ability to evaluate exclusions, limitations, endorsements, and pricing with confidence.
- Active home state general and surplus lines licenses (preferred).
- Ability to excel in high-pressure, high-volume environments, generating quotes and servicing policies at speed without sacrificing quality.
- Clear communication skills: write crisply, speak clearly, and adapt tone between agents, carriers, and teammates.
- Strong organizational skills and accountability, with the ability to multitask and remain attentive to detail while balancing multiple priorities.
- Independent operator who exercises strong judgment, builds trust quickly, and ramps up efficiently.
- Problem-solving mindset: when something breaks, you figure it out; when something’s missing, you build it.
- Team-first attitude: you roll up your sleeves, help your teammates, and celebrate shared wins.
- A valid driver’s license and openness to travel.
