Job Summary The Department of Environment, Health & Safety is seeking a Construction Safety Specialist to provide onsite construction safety services to the University of Michigan's internal Construction Services Department and the Information and Technology Services - Field Service Unit, which includes Skilled Trades personnel working across campus. This position also serves the Grounds Services Department. Responsibilities* Work as part of the team to conduct job site inspections, including verbal and written communication of issues identified in the field to managementWork plan reviewsAssist in job safety planningConduct employee trainingBuilding materials surveysNear miss and incident reportingReview injury & illness data for statistical reporting and champion the employee safety committeeComply with all occupational health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, and University policies and guidelinesOptional participation on the departmental emergency response team Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, construction safety, industrial hygiene or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary Minimum 1-2 years construction safety experienceConsiderable knowledge and application of modern health and safety principles and practicesConsiderable knowledge and application of applicable MIOSHA/OSHA regulationsOSHA 10-Hour Certification, or ability to obtainExcellent verbal and written communication skillsWork independently, exercise initiative and good judgment, and provide follow through with customersAbility to prioritize and manage multiple projectsKnowledge of and ability to use computer applications, such as word processing, email, spreadsheet and databasesMust have a valid driver's licenseAbility to pass physical examinations to utilize personal protective equipment Desired Qualifications* Professional certification such as an Associate Safety Professional/Certified Safety Professional/Construction Health and Safety Technician is highly desirable Some experience in program development and EHS project managementProfessional affiliations and participation in professional organizations and conferences; including presentations and committee work is desirable Why Work at Michigan?
