Construction Safety Specialist-Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks
- Conduct safety assessments/inspections of projects under construction to monitor and ensure compliance with safety/health requirements including contractual commitments, laws, regulations and the project’s site specific environmental, safety & health plans.
- A strong emphasis will be on promoting and improving the companies “Safety leading measures”
- Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement environmental, safety and security policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
- Assist the Safety Manager or Corporate Safety & Risk Manager with development of Method of Procedure (MOP) and critical activity plans.
- Conduct investigations into employee or sub-contractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages and develop written reports to document, including root cause analysis.
- As directed by the Corporate Safety & Risk Manager conduct safety & compliance training for supervisors & field employees.
- Provide comprehensive written reports to document site visits, activities and incidents as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years’ full time safety experience in a construction setting.
- Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques.
- Electrical trade experience preferred.
- Must possess OSHA 30 construction certificate valid within 5 years.
- Trade experience with a board-certified safety credential from a nationally recognized organization (for example, CSP, ASP, CHST) and five years of full-time construction safety management experience.
- Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations as applied to construction and general industry.
- First Aid, CPR & AED certifications, must be willing to lead in an emergency event.
- Competent Person: Electrical safety-NFPA 70E, Excavation, Fall protection and Confined space.
- Self-driven, willing to work alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives.
- Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends and travel as needed.
- Strong computer literacy and ability including to include Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications as needed.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, supervisory and leadership skills.
