Construction Safety Specialist-Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks

  • Conduct safety assessments/inspections of projects under construction to monitor and ensure compliance with safety/health requirements including contractual commitments, laws, regulations and the project’s site specific environmental, safety & health plans.
  • A strong emphasis will be on promoting and improving the companies “Safety leading measures”
  • Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement environmental, safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Assist the Safety Manager or Corporate Safety & Risk Manager with development of Method of Procedure (MOP) and critical activity plans.
  • Conduct investigations into employee or sub-contractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages and develop written reports to document, including root cause analysis.
  • As directed by the Corporate Safety & Risk Manager conduct safety & compliance training for supervisors & field employees.
  • Provide comprehensive written reports to document site visits, activities and incidents as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ full time safety experience in a construction setting.
  • Working knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques.
  • Electrical trade experience preferred.
  • Must possess OSHA 30 construction certificate valid within 5 years.
  • Trade experience with a board-certified safety credential from a nationally recognized organization (for example, CSP, ASP, CHST) and five years of full-time construction safety management experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations as applied to construction and general industry.
  • First Aid, CPR & AED certifications, must be willing to lead in an emergency event.
  • Competent Person: Electrical safety-NFPA 70E, Excavation, Fall protection and Confined space.
  • Self-driven, willing to work alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives.
  • Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends and travel as needed.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability including to include Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications as needed.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, supervisory and leadership skills.
