A&E + SMA Design is seeking a Construction Project Manager III/IV to join our team in Bozeman, MT.

About the Role

This role is ideal for an experienced construction professional who thrives during the construction phase of project delivery. As the owner's advocate and the design team's construction phase project manager, you'll lead construction phase services for a portfolio of projects throughout southwest Montana and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Lead construction phase services for multiple projects from construction kickoff through closeout
  • Serve as the owner's advocate and the design team's primary construction phase representative
  • Manage submittal reviews, Requests for Information (RFIs), change order evaluations and negotiations, contractor pay application certifications, and project documentation
  • Conduct constructability reviews during the design phase and provide recommendations that improve project quality and constructability
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and design intent
  • Conduct regular site observations and prepare field reports documenting project progress and issues
  • Lead project meetings, document meeting minutes, and coordinate communication between owners, contractors, consultants, and design teams
  • Maintain project budgets, schedules, and internal construction administration efforts while proactively identifying and mitigating project risks
  • Conduct final inspections, prepare punch lists, and assist with project closeout activities
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants while representing A&E + SMA Design with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Collaborate with and support other Construction Project Managers within the Construction Studio to ensure consistent, high-quality project delivery
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of the Construction Studio

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in construction management, construction administration, owner's representation, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple commercial, public, institutional, healthcare, or educational construction projects simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and the relationship between design intent and construction execution
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts (AIA and similar) and their application during the construction phase
  • Knowledge of construction delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, and Design-Build
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and specifications
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects during the construction phase as part of a design team, ownership team, and/or contractor
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, negotiation, and time-management skills
  • Prowed ability to identify issues, evaluate solutions, and resolve complex project challenges
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams
  • Experience mentoring junior staff is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and construction management platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Build, or ProjectSight
  • AIA, PE, PMP, CDT/CCCA, DBIA, or CCM certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, or possess a valid U.S. work visa

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy
  • Must be able to travel to project sites throughout the Gallatin Valley, with occasional travel to projects across Montana
  • Work includes periodic site visits involving walking active construction sites and exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours required to meet project deadlines or attend project meetings
  • Long periods of sitting, standing, driving, and computer use should be expected
