Job Responsibilities

  • Coverage of field construction activities, including oversight of construction coordinators and support staff.
  • Coordination and support of the Airport Project Manager (APM) with other City of Austin departments and airport stakeholders.
  • Liaison between contractors and internal airport teams including Maintenance, Operations, and Security.
  • Aid in change management, scope development, and constructability reviews during pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Maintenance of project documentation, schedules, and progress tracking for design reviews, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Attendance and facilitation of project meetings including OAC meetings, progress reviews, punch walks, and coordination sessions.
  • Review of contractor mobilization plans, QA/QC programs, logistics plans, and safety programs to ensure compliance with contract requirements and airport standards.
  • Monitoring of construction activities to confirm adherence to approved drawings, specifications, environmental requirements, and contract terms.
  • Support of cost management activities including GMP field cost reviews, general conditions, and pay application reviews.
  • Review of daily construction reports and weekly work plans to track progress and ensure schedule compliance.
  • Coordination with airport safety, environmental, and risk management teams to support safe construction operations and maintain site security.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in construction, engineering, architecture, or related work.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, airport safety standards, and environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling software and MS Office Suite.
  • Technical Proficiency: Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, SharePoint, Primavera P6.

Physical Requirements

  • Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.

Other Requirements

  • Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected.
  • Short term, out of town, assignments may be required.
  • Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
  • May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.

The Construction Project Coordinator supports capital improvement and infrastructure projects at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport by assisting Project Managers with the coordination and oversight of construction activities throughout the project lifecycle. This role helps ensure field work complies with design specifications, regulatory requirements, and airport standards while maintaining organized project documentation and facilitating communication among contractors, consultants, and airport stakeholders. The Project Coordinator assists with construction administration, progress tracking, inspection coordination, and issue resolution to support the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of projects while minimizing impacts to ongoing airport operations.
