Responsibilities
- Perform standardized laboratory tests on aggregates, cement, concrete, and related materials under guidance from senior staff.
- Assist with the development and execution of testing procedures for 3D printed cement-based materials.
- Support internal quality control activities by fabricating and transporting test samples, recording test data, and helping maintain test documentation.
- Prepare materials and equipment for experiments and help carry out testing plans developed by engineers and scientists.
- Maintain and clean laboratory tools and testing equipment; assist with calibrations and basic troubleshooting.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and help track inventory.
- Participate in safety procedures and protocols for both laboratory and field environments.
- Absorb waste management practices at job and test sites.
- Support other departments with materials testing needs when required.
- Perform physical tasks, including lifting materials up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in varying conditions.
- Must be willing to perform a wide range of tasks daily (e.g., Transition from lab to field work at a moment’s notice, conduct tests individually, fill up bench sheets, work with machinery commonly found in concrete labs like end grinders, saws, hydraulic press, etc).
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in concrete, cement, or construction materials testing.
- Basic understanding of lab procedures and materials handling.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work collaboratively on a team and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds and working in outdoor or construction settings.
- Proficient or fluent in English.
- Ability to obtain ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification within 3 months of hire
Prior Experience and Skills
- ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician certification.
- Familiarity with ASTM test methods for concrete and mortar.
- Experience working in a laboratory or on active construction sites.
- Basic computer skills (Google Workspace or MS Office).
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity to learn new processes.
- Experience or interest in working at a startup or with emerging construction technologies.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and regularly.
- Comfortable working in various outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures (above 100°F or below freezing), sun, rain, mud, and areas with limited infrastructure (e.g., lack of electricity).
- Comfortable standing and moving on your feet for the majority of the workday.
- Flexible availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
