About the role
This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The Construction & Maintenance Technician postion pays between $58,104 to $72,630, and the Senior Construction & Maintenance Technician position pays between $65,772 to $82,215. Placement is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate. This pay range is composed of a current base pay range of $43,040 to $53,800 and $48,720 to $60,900 with a 35% supplemental pay, which is administered in accordance with NMGC's Supplemental Pay Policy. The successful candidate must live within 30 minutes of the Carlsbad Service Center.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare job sites for safe operation
- Frequent work around live gas mains and services performing taps, stop-offs, or tie-ins.
- Excavate site using manual tools, excavating machinery, and shoring following all safety procedures
- Install and maintain steel pipe or non-steel systems Polyethylene (PE) plastic pipe utilizing heat fusion/electrofusion.
- Perform various safety tests, including pressure tests, on gas pipelines.
- Operate and perform preventative and corrective inspections on company vehicles and equipment.
Skill Requirements
- A high school diploma or GEDA
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- 0 years of experience and the ability to obtain and maintain a New Mexico CommercialDriver's License (CDL) within 1 year of hire through company-provided paid training for Construction & Maintenance Tech
- 2 years of experience, a CDL, and Journeyman Gas Fitter’s License (JGL) dependent on location for Senior Construction & Maintenance Tech
Working Conditions
- Construction and/or field environment
- May be required to work overtime and/or be on-call
- Will be exposed year-round to outside weather conditions
- Work often involves exposure to extreme heat and cold, uneven terrain, high-pressure natural gas, blowing gas, and gas fumes
- Personal protective equipment required, including but not limited to, safety glasses, puncture resistance boots, hard hat, respirator, and SCBA
- Regularly required to stand and walk with the ability to bend, twist, balance, and climb frequently
- Occasionally sit to drive vehicles and operate heavy equipment
- Manual dexterity is required to lift, carry and/or maneuver up to 80 pounds by reaching, handling, kneeling, and/or crouching.
