Essential Job Functions

  • Aid the commercial & SBA lending team in gathering and reviewing necessary documentation for construction loans, escrow holdbacks, and other required documents per policy for credit approval.
  • Maintain and manage positive relationships with all parties involved throughout the construction process.
  • Show high attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Support the construction aspects of loan closing and construction funding for all commercial & SBA construction loans.
  • Retrieve missing documentation for construction loans in progress, construction loan draw requests, final draw requests, and other related tasks.
  • Evaluate construction budgets for accuracy and confirm they are feasible for the project.
  • Review construction contracts and related documents to ensure all project-associated information is accurate.
  • Co-host introductory calls with loan officers to educate members and general contractors on the draw process and expectations during the construction of the project.
  • Prepare and send welcome packages to members and general contractors after closing.
  • Process construction draw requests based on required documentation and coordinate with third-party draw monitoring companies to compile the complete draw package and submit it to commercial or SBA loan servicing for processing and funding.
  • Manage construction files and maintain an audit trail for all residential construction files. Ensure all relevant documentation is saved and stored in the required electronic locations.
  • Verify that insurance requirements are met and maintained throughout the construction period, including but not limited to builder's risk insurance.
  • Conduct property inspections for commercial and SBA construction projects to ensure compliance with draw and loan requirements.
  • Order property inspections through third-party vendors for the draw process.
  • Handle third-party invoicing - verify accuracy and submit for payment to accounts payable.
  • Document construction project progress and report any issues that pose risks to the credit union.
  • Stay updated on changes to loan policies, procedures, and compliance rulings affecting real estate, construction, and administration.
  • Proactively oversee the progress of commercial and SBA construction projects from start to finish.
  • Assist the Portfolio Manager with construction extensions as needed with appropriate internal approvals.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and 1-2 years of experience in residential and commercial lending origination, processing, servicing, or one year experience at Arizona Financial Credit Union.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High attention to detail, strong relationship management skills, exceptional verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, ability to produce quality work under tight deadlines, proficiency in credit union core processing systems and department-specific systems, knowledge of residential and commercial lending, compliance, and credit regulations.
  • Licenses, Training, and Certifications Required: None.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Construction lending experience, SBA lending experience, ability to complete construction site inspections and prepare required reports.

Hybrid Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting, 25 lbs. or less
  • Ability to safely navigate construction sites in various stages of construction and all types of weather
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Working on a computer for extended periods of time
