The Role

Join our team as a Construction Coordinator, where you will help ensure ODOT’s highway construction projects in Region 1 are delivered safely, accurately and in full compliance with plans and standards by coordinating field work, reviewing contractor performance, and assisting critical project documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Cook up field construction activities by working directly with contractors, inspectors, and survey crews to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Monitor, inspect, and evaluate contractor work to accept or reject materials/work, suspend non specification activities, and uphold quality and compliance.
  • Review and manage contractor schedules and project documentation, ensuring manpower, timelines, and reporting are accurate, timely, and complete.
  • Prepare and analyze project budgets, crew budgets, cost estimates, and construction calculations for grading, paving, structures, and related work.
  • Develop, negotiate, and review Contract Change Orders, Extra Work Orders, Orders for Force Work, and assist with claims analysis, dispute resolution, and contract administration.
  • Ensure DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise)/EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity)/subcontractor compliance, including conducting and documenting commercially useful function (CUF) reviews and identifying any performance concerns.
  • Provide professional communication, customer service, and collaboration with ODOT staff, contractors, agencies, local governments, the public, and project teams.
  • Aid team operations through safety practices, training, attendance, professionalism, and adherence to ODOT policies, guidelines, and technical manuals to ensure safe, high quality project delivery.
  • Work in both office and outdoor field environments, including rough terrain, heavy traffic areas, inclement weather, and extended computer use; perform statewide travel and drive regularly.
  • Maintain and operate vehicles, survey tools, computers, and required protective equipment, ensuring all tools and equipment meet safety and performance expectations.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in the field of engineering related to construction contract administration, construction inspection, surveying and/or permitting; OR
  • An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and two years of engineering technician experience; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret and analyze engineering plans, specifications, and technical documentation, and to apply mathematical concepts (such as geometry, algebra, and trigonometry) to solve construction-related problems.
  • Pioneering skill in producing clear written reports and conveying technical information verbally, with experience working collaboratively with contractors, internal staff, partner agencies, and members of the public.
  • Experience making timely, well-reasoned decisions in field settings related to safety, specification compliance, materials acceptance, and project scheduling, while following established standards and procedures.
  • Consistent record of following safety policies and procedures, contributing to a safe work environment, and demonstrating professionalism aligned.

  • Knowledge of construction industry standards and regulations.

Pay

$5,527 - $8,568 per month.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
