About the role
The Computer Support Specialist provides technical assistance in support of software, hardware, and networking tools used by employees of the Montana Department of Transportation. They develop training materials and assist with formal technical and computer training, both in the classroom and one-on-one.
Responsibilities
- Develops and delivers training materials for MDT employees.
- Assists with scheduling, conducting, and coordinating computer software, hardware installation and configuration.
- Performs setup procedures for new equipment and ensures accurate operation of software packages and hardware on personal computers.
- Customizes and troubleshoots applications when problems occur and ensures compliance with MDT network standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related field.
- 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- 1 year of experience in computer systems administration or information technology support experience, including hardware and software troubleshooting, hardware deployment, software installation, configuration and management.
Qualifications
- Ability to troubleshoot complex problems while providing customer service to employees.
- Knowledge of computer operating systems (such as Microsoft Windows) and principles of computer networking.
- Ability to assist employees with personal computers, printers, scanners and other computer peripherals.
Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with network troubleshooting and administration.
