Compliance Specialist I
About the role
The Compliance Specialist I supports ACA’s Compliance Monitoring Program by executing defined monitoring reviews and validation activities across operational functions. This role applies established monitoring methodologies, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to evaluate customer records, transactions, complaints, and business processes for compliance with applicable laws and internal standards. The Compliance Specialist I identifies potential compliance concerns, discrepancies, exceptions, and Red Flags, documents findings accurately, and escalates issues following established protocols. Working under routine guidance and supervision, this position contributes to the effectiveness of the compliance program by ensuring review consistency, maintaining audit-ready documentation, and identifying compliance risks.
Responsibilities
- Execute compliance monitoring and review activities in accordance with established procedures, methodologies, monitoring programs, and review guides.
- Evaluate customer records, transactions, complaints, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance requirements are met and investigations are appropriately documented and evidenced.
- Identify and communicate potential opportunities to improve monitoring activities, controls, or processes based on observations identified during review execution.
- Review assigned business-line data and activities to monitor for compliance outcomes, control effectiveness, and adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Validate business practices against applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
- Identify compliance discrepancies, exceptions, control weaknesses, and potential Red Flags and escalate findings through established reporting channels.
- Document and communicate review results, observations, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, accurately, and objectively to support quality assurance, management oversight, and audit readiness.
- Follow established escalation protocols and seek guidance when situations fall outside documented procedures or require additional interpretation.
- Participate in calibration sessions, team meetings, training activities, and cross-functional discussions to promote consistency and accuracy in monitoring activities.
- Maintain productivity, timeliness, quality, and service-level expectations established by management.
- Support technology-enabled compliance monitoring initiatives by accurately labeling, validating, and documenting review outcomes in accordance with established quality standards and governance requirements.
- Develop foundational knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, compliance monitoring processes, and internal control expectations through continuous learning and coaching.
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and contribute to the overall success of the team through accountability, collaboration, and professional conduct.
- Support special projects, testing activities, and other compliance-related assignments as requested.
- Exercise judgment within defined guidelines and documented processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in compliance, audit, risk, operations, or financial services preferred.
- Associate degree or relevant experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; internet research and navigation; and learning and adapting to new software applications and systems.
- English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
- SharePoint experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with internal stakeholders.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday, with some schedule variations as needed.
Travel
Travel is not required for this position.
