About the role

The Compliance Manager will provide strategic compliance guidance for leave management, disability programs, and related offerings while ensuring alignment with evolving laws and market expectations. The role requires strong regulatory expertise, collaboration across business functions, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions for clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compliance support for Paid Family Leave (PFL), Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML), statutory disability plans, and related leave management programs.
  • Identify regulatory requirements, prepare compliance guidance, and support employer clients with private plan approvals and state-specific obligations.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of plan documents, templates, required notices, renewal materials, and state reporting processes.
  • Monitor changes in leave laws, regulations, and market trends, communicating relevant updates to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Advise on the implementation and application of state leave laws, including FMLA, ADA, paid sick leave, pregnancy-related leave, and other employee protection requirements.
  • Partner with product, marketing, and business teams to develop customer-facing materials and improve leave management offerings.
  • Support strategic initiatives related to statutory disability and paid family leave solutions.
  • Provide training and education to distribution teams and internal partners on evolving compliance requirements.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, regulatory requests, and compliance-related concerns.
  • Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and professional forums when needed.
  • Perform additional responsibilities that support business objectives and compliance initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Juris Doctor (J.D.) and employment law experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in leave management, disability consulting, insurance, employee benefits, or related compliance-focused roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of leave-related regulations, including FMLA, state leave laws, ADA, PFML, paid sick leave, and pregnancy-related leave requirements.
  • Experience supporting employer clients throughout the full lifecycle of benefit programs, from implementation through ongoing advisory support.
  • Understanding of short-term disability plans and statutory benefit programs is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and develop practical business solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain compliance topics clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Curiosity about business operations, industry trends, and evolving regulatory environments.
  • Adaptability and willingness to develop expertise in new areas.
