About the role

The Compliance Coordinator for Florida operations ensures regulatory adherence across retail, cultivation, and processing sectors. This role demands practical knowledge of Florida’s medical cannabis laws under Section 381.986, F.S., and the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) rules, along with experience in submitting, monitoring, or interpreting Variance Requests. A strong understanding of cannabis operations in cultivation, processing, and retail is also crucial.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Regulatory & Variance Coordination
    • Assist department leadership in preparing variance requests according to Section 381.986, F.S., and OMMU rules.
    • Cook up among Leadership, Cultivation, Processing, and Retail teams to ensure variance requests accurately represent operational needs and compliance constraints.
    • Track variance submissions, monitor OMMU responses, and relay outcomes to relevant operational teams to ensure they understand the scope of the variance and how to implement operational and procedural changes resulting from approval.
    • Prepare and maintain organized, accessible guidance to assist operational teams in implementing changes required through the variance process.
  • Regulatory Response & Issue Resolution
    • Aid in drafting responses to Notices of Violation and Requests for Information issued by OMMU.
    • Support monitoring and response efforts for Failed Certificates of Analysis (COAs), including reviewing data, assessing root causes, collecting documentation, and coordinating follow-up actions.
    • Maintain an eye on inspection reports and work closely with Retail Area Managers and Cultivation & Processing leadership teams to address compliance concerns and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Operational Compliance Support
    • Be a resource for OMMU regulatory requirements related to cultivation, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, transport, retail dispensing, and recordkeeping.
    • Identify regulatory risks, escalate concerns, and provide operational teams with guidance aligned with Florida law and internal policies.
    • Support operations managers with compliance inquiries, documentation requirements, and understanding of regulatory standards.
  • Technical Writing & Documentation
    • Aid with drafting, revising, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidance documents, compliance memos, and technical reference materials.
    • Ensure documents are accurate, compliant with current OMMU rules, and aligned across retail, cultivation, and processing departments.
    • Support version control, document distribution, and organization of compliance reference materials.
  • Audit Preparation & Ongoing Monitoring
    • Ensure facilities are prepared for OMMU inspections, internal audits, and regulatory reviews.
    • Maintain detailed logs, compliance records, and documentation sources for Florida operations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist legal, operations, and department leadership with research and understanding of regulations.
  • Attend internal meetings and assist with assigned cross-functional projects.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned to support ongoing regulatory and operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Required Skills & Abilities:
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in compliance or regulations.
    • Strong working knowledge of Section 381.986, Florida Statutes, and OMMU Rules and Regulations.
    • Experience with variance requests or regulatory petitions within the Florida medical cannabis program.
    • Previous compliance experience in retail, cultivation, and processing environments.
    • Excellent technical writing skills, including creating SOPs, responding to regulatory agencies, and developing structured documentation.
    • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and document management skills.
    • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and clearly communicate regulatory requirements.
    • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Preferred but Not Required:
    • At least 2–3 years of experience in cannabis compliance, cultivation, processing, or retail preferred.
    • Previous experience with OMMU or other regulatory agencies is highly valued.
