Complex RN - Kamakahelei Middle School (Kauai)
About the role
The Complex RN will support and assist the Complex Area and school administration to expand access to care, including on-site school clinic and telehealth services, establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious disease (such as COVID-19), coordinate with community partners to enhance existing services, and connect students to primary care and specialty providers. The role also involves providing education to school staff, students, and families.
School nursing practice combines professional clinical nursing with a specialized focus on promoting the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of school-age children. The school nurse works closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, school administrators, Hawaii Keiki team members, and supports the school health assistant (SHA) to carry out a wide range of school health activities.
This is a 10-month position following the HIDOE Teacher Schedule. While not required to report when DOE schools are closed, the employee is expected to meet professional responsibilities, including attendance at scheduled meetings and events during non-student days.

Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School, Kapaa-Kauai-Waimea Complex Area
Full-Time, Mon-Fri, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (10-month employee schedule)
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawai'i
- BLS for healthcare provider certification
- Experience with electronic health records and program reporting
- One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience
- Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws
- Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations for bloodborne pathogens
