Support and assist the Complex Area and school administration to expand access to care, including on-site school clinic and telehealth services. Establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious disease (such as COVID-19), coordinate with community partners to enhance existing services, and connect students to primary care and specialty providers. Provide education to school staff, students, and families. School nursing practice combines professional clinical nursing with a specialized focus on promoting the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of school-age children.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, school administrators, and Hawaii Keiki team members.
- Support the school health assistant (SHA) to carry out a wide range of school health activities.
- Expand access to care through on-site school clinic and telehealth services.
- Establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
- Coordinate with community partners to enhance existing services and connect students to primary and specialty care providers.
- Provide education to school staff, students, and families.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing.
- BLS for healthcare provider certification.
- Experience with electronic health records and program reporting.
- Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii; or ability to sit for NCLEX exam within 180 days of graduation, in accordance with Executive Order 20-04.
- One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience.
- Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations for bloodborne pathogens.
Schedule
- Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM.
- 10-month employee following the HIDOE Teacher Schedule.
- Paid time off includes all HIDOE holidays and breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) plus sick leave and flex time off.
- While not required to report when DOE schools are closed, the employee is expected to meet professional responsibilities, including attendance at scheduled meetings and events during non-student days.
