About the Role

The Complex RN will support and assist the Complex Area and school administration to expand access to care, including on-site school clinic and telehealth services. They will establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious diseases (such as COVID-19), coordinate with community partners to enhance existing services, connect students to primary care and specialty providers, and provide education to school staff, students, and families. This role combines professional clinical nursing practice with a specialized component that promotes the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of school-age children. The nurse will work closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, school administrators, Hawaii Keiki team members, and support the school health assistant (SHA) in carrying out a wide range of school health activities. Schedule

Full-Time, Mon-Fri, 7:30am - 4:00pm, 10-Month Employee. Paid Time Off includes all HIDOE holidays and breaks (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer) + sick leave and flex time off. The employee will follow the HIDOE Teacher Schedule and is not required to report to the school or complex area superintendent’s office when DOE schools are closed but must meet professional responsibilities, including attendance at scheduled meetings and events during non-student days.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • BLS for healthcare provider certification
  • Experience with electronic health records and program reporting
  • Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii; or ability to sit for NCLEX exam within 180 days of graduation, in accordance with Executive Order 20-04
  • One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for bloodborne pathogens
