Competitive Climbing Team Coach (Part-Time)

About the role

The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Part-Time Competitive Climbing Assistant Coach for the 2026-2027 season. This role supports the development of MAC climbing athletes competing at various levels.

Responsibilities

  • Aid the Head Coach in coaching and supervising competitive climbing athletes
  • Implement training plans, practice schedules, and athlete development programs
  • Coach, motivate, and inspire climbers to grow their skills and progress
  • Participate in weekly route setting across boulder, sport, and speed walls
  • Travel to local and regional competitions to support athletes during events
  • Communicate professionally with athletes, parents/guardians, and team members
  • Follow program policies, procedures, and direction from coaching leadership
  • Identify opportunities to improve programming and athlete development
  • Provide written observations or reports as needed
  • Maintain a safe environment by recognizing and addressing potential hazards
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and development opportunities
  • Represent and promote MAC’s mission, values, and code of conduct
  • Support additional recreational programs and community engagement efforts as needed

Requirements

  • 2 years of competitive climbing coaching experience preferred
  • At least 4 years of personal climbing experience
  • Knowledge of climbing techniques, safety standards, and athlete development
  • USA Climbing Level 2 Coach certification
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
  • SafeSport certification and ability to pass a background check
  • Proficiency in top-rope and lead belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (or willingness to learn)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectively
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to team success

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours based on training schedules, competitions, and program needs

  • Competitive climbing coaching experience

  • USA Climbing Level 2 Coach certification
