About the role
The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Part-Time Competitive Climbing Assistant Coach for the 2026-2027 season. This role supports the development of MAC climbing athletes competing at various levels.
Responsibilities
- Aid the Head Coach in coaching and supervising competitive climbing athletes
- Implement training plans, practice schedules, and athlete development programs
- Coach, motivate, and inspire climbers to grow their skills and progress
- Participate in weekly route setting across boulder, sport, and speed walls
- Travel to local and regional competitions to support athletes during events
- Communicate professionally with athletes, parents/guardians, and team members
- Follow program policies, procedures, and direction from coaching leadership
- Identify opportunities to improve programming and athlete development
- Provide written observations or reports as needed
- Maintain a safe environment by recognizing and addressing potential hazards
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and development opportunities
- Represent and promote MAC’s mission, values, and code of conduct
- Support additional recreational programs and community engagement efforts as needed
Requirements
- 2 years of competitive climbing coaching experience preferred
- At least 4 years of personal climbing experience
- Knowledge of climbing techniques, safety standards, and athlete development
- USA Climbing Level 2 Coach certification
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
- SafeSport certification and ability to pass a background check
- Proficiency in top-rope and lead belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (or willingness to learn)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectively
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to team success
Qualifications
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours based on training schedules, competitions, and program needs
