About the Role

Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for assigned volunteer programs. Manage, recruit, and expand volunteers while overseeing service projects that provide older adults with opportunities for social inclusion, skills development, learning, and improved health and well-being. Provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to Division Managers and the Director of the Department of Senior Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the organization, staffing, and operational activities for assigned volunteer programs, including managing, recruiting, and expanding volunteers.
  • Manage service projects and provide services for older adults to promote social inclusion, skills development, learning opportunities, and improved health and well-being.
  • Develop and monitor community engagement, member training, recognition, and data tracking; expand community support for volunteer programs.
  • Plan and attend community events targeting retirees and those nearing retirement.
  • Participate in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; assess resource funding needs and opportunities; implement improvements.
  • Manage, coordinate, and review work plans for assigned services; assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow and evaluate work products and methods.
  • Establish partnerships with nonprofit community organizations to create volunteer opportunities for members.
  • Oversee and participate in job training program activities; monitor participation with various agencies and enhance collaboration among community groups.
  • Administer and analyze grants and contracts related to Senior Affairs volunteer programs; ensure compliance with Federal, State, City, and Department goals, policies, and regulations.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate program personnel and volunteer staff; coordinate staff training and address performance issues.
  • Participate in budget development and administration; forecast funding needs and monitor expenditures.
  • Provide staff assistance to assigned management; participate in committees and prepare reports.
  • Represent volunteer programs to other divisions, departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; coordinate activities with external organizations.
  • Serve as a liaison for the division, department, or City with other departments, the public, and outside agencies; resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
  • Attend professional meetings to stay updated on trends and innovations in social services or gerontology.
  • Respond to public inquiries and provide information about programs for older adults.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Liberal Arts, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of program management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in grant-funded programs and program development for the elderly preferred.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with exposure to computer screens.
  • Physical condition necessary for walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods.
