About the role
The Community Support Specialist is an important direct service role within a multi-disciplinary team focused on providing behaviorally-oriented and socially rehabilitative services in the community for clients who are experiencing disruption in functioning due to severe, persistent mental illness. Services focus primarily on assistance in the domains of physical, environmental, financial, social, occupational, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional well-being.
Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessment and ongoing assessment of behavioral and psychosocial needs
- Provide information and referral services
- Educate clients and families
- Coordinate services with all providers
- Assist clients with learning necessary skills for successful independence and community integration
- Function as part of an interdisciplinary team for client care
- Work effectively in a multicultural setting
- Maintain organized paperwork and compliance
- Engage in community-based work, meeting people in homes, centers, or drop-in spaces
Requirements
- A degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a similar field
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Ability to build trust and motivate others
- Commitment to supporting a team and sharing knowledge
- Cultural awareness and commitment to creating inclusive spaces
- Adaptability to changing situations and creative problem-solving
- For roles involving driving, meet all safety and compliance standards
- Willingness to earn Benefits Planning certification within a year (for Employment Services roles)
