God Restoring Order (GRO) Community is a mental healthcare provider that specializes in trauma recovery services for males of color ages 5 and up. GRO services are grounded in an understanding of the neurological, biological, and psychological effects of trauma. Our offerings include mental health and wellness, stress management, and community outreach.
About the role
The Community Support Specialist (CSS) plays a vital role in our Housing program, helping individuals gain independent skills required for permanent housing. This role provides essential services to GRO clients through case management, ongoing assessments, and hands-on coaching, ensuring each resident receives wraparound support as they participate in the GRO Independent Housing Program.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial, midpoint, and post assessments with clients using a strength-based approach to evaluate their strengths, challenges, and needs.
- Offer hands-on training to clients addressing independent life skills challenges.
- Facilitate weekly group workshops covering relevant topics and activities.
- Develop individualized housing plans with clients and reassess their needs monthly.
- Connect residents with appropriate services for affordable housing, employment, childcare, food insecurity, and clothing.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss clients' progress and coordinate services.
- Accompany clients to view potential rental units and assist them in navigating the housing application process.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation.
Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred experience in a similar or related role, though not required—we are willing to train.
- Experience working with re-entry populations desired.
- Social services industry experience preferred.
- Ability to walk premises, including up and down stairs.
- Must have reliable transportation.
