About the role
The Community Service Officer (CSO) is a uniformed, non-sworn member of the Police Department. The CSO interacts heavily with the public and performs police-related duties that do not require the services of a sworn officer, such as traffic control, enforcement of local ordinances, investigation of private property traffic accidents, and responding to non-criminal service calls.
This position requires an individual who communicates effectively, demonstrates a command of City regulations, attention to detail, integrity, a dedication to providing outstanding customer service, sound independent judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Traffic control
- Enforcement of local ordinances
- Investigation of private property traffic accidents
- Responding to non-criminal service calls
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma, GED Certificate, or High School Proficiency Statement
- At least 18 years of age or older
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check (including driving record, past employment, references, neighbors, and criminal history)
Schedule
- Part-time position, typically works no more than three (3) shifts per week
- Shifts are eight (8) hours in length
- Some overtime and after-hours assignments may be required
Pay
$21.58/hour
