About the role

The Village of Wauconda is accepting applications for a part-time Community Service Officer position with the Wauconda Police Department. The Community Service Officer (CSO) performs duties to ensure that life and property within the community are protected. The CSO maintains a professional decorum and displays a respectful attitude in all dealings with citizens, superiors, and other Department personnel. The CSO understands and complies with the orders, directives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Wauconda Police Department. The position entails working in an outside environment in all weather conditions during the year, which at times can be extreme.

Responsibilities

• Protect life and property within the community
• Maintain professional decorum and respectful attitude in all interactions
• Comply with orders, directives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Wauconda Police Department
• Work in an outside environment in all weather conditions
• Respond to emergency situations calmly and quickly
• Perform duties as required to meet public safety demands, including short-notice assignments during closings or emergencies

Requirements

• Citizen of the United States (natural or naturalized)
• Age 18 or above
• Valid State Driver’s License
• Ability to pass a background check, physical, and drug screen
• Successfully complete a basic training program as specified by the Department
• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations
• Punctuality and consistent attendance
• Ability to deal with people of various ages and backgrounds
• Good judgment and vision
• Flexible hours availability

Qualifications

• Experience in radio operations and use of automated computer programs is desirable
• Bilingual capability in Spanish is highly desirable but not required

Pay

Starting: $18.00/hour

Schedule

Part-time. Hours are assigned by the Chief of Police as required to meet the demands of public safety. Employee may be required on short notice to perform duties in the event of a closing or emergency situation.
