Service Line/Section: Houston Water/Wastewater Operations
Reporting Location: 100 Japhet St, Houston, TX 77020
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm

Responsibilities
- First responder investigating and responding to all service requests generated from citizens, business owners, and manhole monitoring alerts related to collection system concerns.
- Investigate, document, and respond to sanitary sewer overflows by opening manholes, taking pictures, sending emails, and using the asset management system.
- Meet with the public, technical professionals, and businesses to address inquiries and concerns.
- Respond to emergency calls and work longer shifts, including sleeping at the facility during emergencies.
- Ensure all collection system concerns are safe and secure for public protection.
- Drive to and from job sites.
Working Conditions
- Routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items (e.g., folding barricades or manhole covers up to 90 pounds).
- Involves very long periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Up to eighteen months of specialized education or training in a specific area or trade.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s driving policy.
- One year of experience related to customer service or inspection.
Preferences
- Working knowledge of IPS, GIS, and/or experience with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills.
- Preference given to eligible veteran applicants who meet the qualifications.
