Water Wastewater Inspector
About the Role
RVE, an Ardurra company, is seeking a water/wastewater inspector with experience in water and sewer construction. The ideal candidate will be familiar with gravity sanitary main, sanitary force main, pump station, and wastewater treatment plant components and operation. The individual should also be versed in water main installation, water supply distribution systems, and the components and operation of water treatment plants. The candidate may also inspect storm sewer systems and roadway construction.
The role involves reviewing plans, monitoring construction progress, promoting observance of building codes, and serving as a liaison among contractors, project managers, regulatory agencies, and the community. The inspector supports project documentation, reporting, and issue resolution.
Responsibilities
- Perform constructability and plan reviews prior to construction.
- Interact with the design engineer to provide input before the project goes out to bid.
- Perform construction management services for projects involving water supply and sanitary distribution systems, including work in water and wastewater plants.
- Ensure the job site is maintained in a safe, neat, and orderly fashion by the contractor.
- Inspect contractors' work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate daily with the project manager about project progress and keep the client informed.
- Attend and run pre-construction and weekly progress meetings with the client and contractor; provide input on issues arising during construction.
- Follow through with RFIs to maintain project schedules and communicate with the Engineering Team.
- Conduct on-site observations of work in progress to determine compliance with Contract Documents, both alone and as part of a team.
- Maintain a diary or logbook of all observations and daily activities; provide daily reports including labor trades and equipment supplied by the contractor.
- Review applications for payment with the contractor and confer with the Engineer on recommendations for progress payments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of NJDEP procedures and requirements for project management.
- Perform field testing of materials installed and start-up and acceptance of equipment.
- Prepare a final punch list at substantial completion and perform a final project review for closeout.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of construction observation or construction experience directly related to one or more of the following disciplines: water supply and distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection, water/wastewater treatment systems, and roadway construction.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
- Valid Driver’s License.

- NICET Certification (a plus)
- Traffic Control Coordinator
- Work Zone Safety
- NICET – Highway Construction (may be required post-hire)
- ACI - Field Technician Certification (may be required post-hire)
- New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technicians - Field Testing (may be required post-hire)
- NJDOT - Traffic Control Coordinator (may be required post-hire)
- NACE - CIP Level 1 (may be required post-hire)
- OSHA - 10/30 (may be required post-hire)
- NASSCO - Pipe Assessment (may be required post-hire)
- Confined Space Training (may be required post-hire)
Skills
- Demonstrated experience in water/wastewater inspections.
