Community Relations Manager

About the role

FiNC (The Future is Now Coalition) is assembling citizens, candidates, and communities to change how politics works in America. The coalition is building a Digital Politics Hub and a Reddit community where people can discuss the rigged patterns that decide who wins before anyone votes. As a Reddit Community Manager you will own the subreddit, start conversations, grow the community from related subreddits, turn citizen feedback into actionable insights, and report on what’s working. This role is an active seat that shapes the culture and direction of the community while working alongside Outreach and Marketing.

Responsibilities

• Own the subreddit: start conversations, post prompts, answer early comments, set the culture (keep politics aimed at rule‑setters, no scoring), run mechanics (AutoModerator, flair, removal reasons, judgment calls).
• Grow it from other subreddits: engage deeply in a handful of related communities, reply where people discuss the problem, avoid spam, brigading, or breaking other communities’ rules.
• Turn citizen feedback into action: collect reports of broken systems, hand them to Marketing for the weekly roundup, follow promising threads into DMs to bring people into the community.
• Report on what’s working: share growth metrics and lessons from Reddit to correct the plan and improve the community.

Requirements

• Real Reddit fluency: understand why comments succeed or fail, distinguish genuine participation from advertising.
• Experience building or growing an online community (subreddit, Discord, forum, group); hobby experience counts.
• Ability to write like a person, not a brand.
• Capacity to sit in political conversations all day without picking a side; maintain a neutral referee posture.
• Thick skin and light touch: able to handle being called a shill and keep the conversation going.
• Comfortable being early: tolerate small numbers, slow weeks, and speak honestly about progress.
• Mission‑aligned and genuinely curious about why people believe what they believe.

Pay

• Compensation is deferred during the Crowd‑Starting phase; no salary until the organization becomes operational.
• Contributors earn an ownership stake in FiNC (currently an LLC, moving toward a nonprofit cooperative).
• The founder also forgoes a salary until the team is paid.

Schedule

Expected commitment: 15–20 hours per week.
