Position Summary
About the role
Supervise, plan and coordinate the operations and activities of an assigned community recreation; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher-level supervisory or management staff. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Responsibilities
- Cook up the organization, staffing and operational activities for an assigned community recreation or including implementing recreational programs, ensuring maintenance of assigned facilities and promotion of assigned center programs.
- Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate recreation center personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Oversee the collection of fees for various recreational programs; ensure proper depositing of funds and maintenance of financial reports.
- Promote good relations with community organizations and agencies; interpret program philosophies and services to groups and individuals.
- Prepare schedules of assigned community recreation center events; determine when to schedule events according to open dates and available resources.
- Respond to public inquiries and requests; provide information regarding program costs, policies, procedures and available services.
- Coordinate recreation center activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, social work, recreation services, education, or general studies; and Three (3) years of experience in program operations, recreation activities coordination, working with youth programs or educational program experience; and To include one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
- Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire. Possession of a valid First Aid Certificate within six (6) months from date of hire. Possession of a valid CPR certificate within six (6) months from date of hire.
- Working Conditions: Environmental Community center and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise.
- Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for or moderate to heavy lifting, walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; and operating motorized vehicles.
