Community Outreach Manager

FiNC (Future is Now Coalition) · United States · 1 mo ago
RemoteRemoteOTHRPart-time

About the role

FiNC is changing how politics works in America by building a coalition of citizens, candidates, and communities that see the system as rigged rather than broken. The Future is Now Coalition (FiNC) aims to bypass big money, party gatekeepers, and media manipulation by connecting citizens directly with candidates through the Digital Politics Hub at hub.futureis.org. The coalition is the product; the hub is a tool that supports it. Work focuses on outreach, PR, social media, and citizen buy‑in — not technology, which already exists across other civic groups. Team members are partners and co‑architects, not employees, and compensation is deferred until the organization is operational, with contributors earning an ownership stake.

Responsibilities

  • Own the subreddit: start conversations, post prompts, answer early comments, set the culture (keep politics aimed at rule‑setters, no scoring), and run mechanics (AutoModerator, flair, removal reasons, judgment calls).
  • Grow it from other subreddits: engage deeply in a handful of communities where people discuss the problem, avoid spam, brigading, or breaking other communities’ rules.
  • Turn citizen feedback into action: collect reports of what is broken locally, hand them to Marketing for the weekly roundup shared with candidates and movements, and follow promising threads into DMs to bring people into the community.
  • Report on what’s working: share growth metrics and lessons from Reddit to refine the plan and correct course when needed.

Requirements

  • Real Reddit fluency: understand why one comment lands and another dies, and differentiate genuine participation from advertising.
  • Experience building or growing an online community (subreddit, Discord, forum, group); hobby experience counts.
  • Write like a person, not a brand.
  • Ability to sit in political conversations all day without picking a side; maintain a neutral posture.
  • Thick skin, light touch: handle accusations calmly and stay engaged.
  • Comfortable being early: accept small numbers, slow weeks, and communicate honestly about progress.
  • Mission‑aligned and genuinely curious about why people believe what they believe.

Benefits

  • Ownership stake in FiNC (currently an LLC, transitioning toward a nonprofit cooperative where builders own the organization).
  • Culture that treats neurodiversity and diversity‑of‑thought as strengths.
  • Servant leadership, dynamic team structures, and shared ownership.
  • Purpose over profits, value over hours, and respect for work‑life balance.
  • Reward authenticity, passion, and commitment; support individual weaknesses to enhance collective strengths.
  • Continuous role assessments, long‑term growth opportunities, and real career sustainability.

Pay

Compensation is deferred until the organization becomes operational; contributors receive an ownership stake instead of a salary during this phase.

Schedule

Expected commitment of 15–20 hours per week during the crowd‑starting phase.
