Community Outreach and Event Coordinator - Congregation Shir Tikvah

About the Role

Congregation Shir Tikvah seeks a Community Outreach & Events Coordinator to serve as the congregation's principal public-facing professional. This is a generalist position within a small professional staff. The Coordinator is one of four staff members, reports to the Executive Director, and works in close partnership with the Rabbi, the Education Director, committee chairs, and volunteers.

The successful candidate combines dependable execution with genuine initiative and exercises considerable latitude in shaping how this work is carried out—including proposing and developing programming of their own devising.

Responsibilities

• Conception and execution of congregational events
• Member and newcomer engagement
• Communications and stewardship of donors and community partners
• Organizing and motivating volunteers
• Working alongside a lay committee to contribute ideas and carry joint decisions through to completion
• Public representation of the organization with warmth and credibility

Requirements

• Three or more years of experience in event coordination, community organizing, member or donor relations, or comparable nonprofit work
• Demonstrated creative initiative—the capacity to conceive of and develop programming, not solely to administer an existing calendar
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Facility working alongside a lay committee
• Comfort in representing an organization publicly
• Strong writing skills—clear, warm, and dependable—together with facility in email platforms, social media, and basic design tools
• Proficiency with a donor or membership database, or a demonstrated aptitude for acquiring it
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize when several deadlines fall in the same week
• Capacity for self-direction in a small organization without extensive supporting infrastructure
• Familiarity with Jewish communal life and the rhythm of the Jewish calendar or a genuine willingness to learn it
• Alignment with the mission, values, and inclusive spirit of the congregation
• Availability for regular evening and weekend work, concentrated around the High Holy Days, festivals, Shabbat, and other holiday events

Pay

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience. Eligible for an annual bonus of up to 10% of base salary, awarded by the Board of Directors when annual goals including fundraising targets are met or exceeded.
