Community Mental Health Charge Nurse

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Elderly Mental Health Charge Nurse within our Community Elderly Mental Health Team based at Rothesay House, Cumnock & North West Kilmarnock Area Centre. The Older Adult Community Mental Health Team is embedded within the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

You will work collaboratively in a caring, safe, and respectful way as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in close partnership with colleagues in primary care, community, social work, and the third sector. The role involves working with older people who have a range of complex mental health issues, placing the older person and their care partners at the forefront of service delivery.

You will be responsible for the managerial supervision and clinical development of junior members of staff, ensuring the team maintains high clinical standards while promoting a safe, caring, and respectful culture. Clinical supervision and continuous professional development opportunities will be facilitated within the team.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, care, support, and interventions to patients and carers living in East Ayrshire.
• Work as part of an integrated and multi-disciplinary team to innovate and develop practice.
• Promote NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s core values of safe, caring, and respectful care in practice and managerial decision-making.
• Oversee the clinical development and managerial supervision of junior staff.
• Ensure high clinical standards are maintained within the team.

Requirements

• Registered Mental Health Nurse on Part 3 of the NMC Register.
• Educated to degree level or have a relevant post-graduate qualification with experience relevant to the role.
• Full UK driving licence (essential).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Well-developed knowledge of care for older people with complex mental health problems and appropriate interventions.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Schedule

27 hours per week, Monday to Friday, within a 9am–5pm shift pattern, inclusive of the new reduced working week hours (RWW). This post is offered on a permanent basis.
