Community Manager
About the role
FiNC (The Future Is Now Coalition) is building a citizen‑led movement to change how politics works in America by exposing the rigged patterns of big money, party gatekeepers, and media manipulation that decide winners before votes are cast. The coalition connects citizens, candidates, and communities directly—without middlemen—through the Digital Politics Hub and a growing online community. FiNC operates more like a cooperative than a traditional nonprofit: team members are partners and co‑architects, ownership is shared, and the organization is driven by purpose over profits, servant leadership, neurodiversity, and authentic collaboration. At this early stage the focus is on human‑side work—outreach, public relations, social engagement, and citizen buy‑in—while the technical foundation already exists across allied civic groups.
Responsibilities
- Own the subreddit: start conversations with prompts and questions, answer every participant (especially early on to avoid an empty appearance), set the culture by keeping political discussion aimed at rule‑setters, and manage mechanics such as AutoModerator, flair, removal reasons, and judgment calls not covered by the rules.
- Grow the community from other subreddits: engage deeply in a handful of relevant subs where people are already discussing the problem, build trust over time, and avoid spamming, brigading, or breaking other communities’ rules.
- Turn citizen feedback into actionable insights: collect reports of what is broken in local areas, pass them to Marketing for the weekly roundup shared with candidates and movements, and follow promising threads into direct messages to bring new members into the community.
- Report on what is working: monitor growth, note what is not, and share Reddit‑learned corrections to the plan, preferring honest feedback over agreement.
Requirements
- Real Reddit fluency: understand why individual comments succeed or fail, distinguish genuine participation from advertising, and navigate the platform’s culture.
- Experience building or growing an online community (subreddit, Discord, forum, group); hobby or volunteer background counts.
- Write in a natural, person‑to‑person tone rather than a brand voice.
- Ability to stay engaged in political discussions all day without picking a side, maintaining a neutral referee posture even when challenged.
- Thick skin and a light touch: expect to be called a “shill” early on and respond by acknowledging your role while continuing the conversation.
- Comfortable working with small numbers and slow weeks, and willing to speak honestly about progress.
- Deep alignment with FiNC’s mission and genuine curiosity about why people hold the beliefs they do.
Schedule
Team members are expected to contribute 15–20 hours per week during this pre‑operational phase.
Pay
Compensation is deferred until FiNC becomes operational; contributors earn an ownership stake in the LLC and will receive a share of any future surplus. The founder has not drawn a salary and will not do so until the team does.
