Community Foundation Appoints Cheryl Wolken as Wausau Area Marketing Specialist
Cheryl Wolken, creator of WausauMama.com and author of the bestseller The ABCs of Wausau, will join the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin (CFONCW) to enhance local marketing efforts and strengthen affinity for Wausau among current residents. This new role is enabled by a CFONCW fund and will collaborate with the City of Wausau.
About the role
The Area Marketing Specialist for Wausau advances CFONCW’s mission by promoting the Wausau area as an ideal place to live, work, and enjoy life. The position focuses on raising awareness and perception of community opportunities while deepening residents' connection to the Wausau area. The specialist will coordinate, complement, amplify, and accelerate related initiatives across the community.
Responsibilities
- Promote the Wausau area as a desirable location for living, working, and recreation.
- Raise awareness and improve perception of community opportunities.
- Strengthen resident affinity and engagement within the Wausau area.
- Coordinate and amplify community-wide marketing and engagement initiatives.
- Partner with local organizations to enhance Wausau’s visibility.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in marketing, community engagement, or related fields.
- Passion for and deep connection to the Wausau community.
- Background in digital content creation, including website development (e.g., WausauMama.com).
- Author of The ABCs of Wausau, a bestselling children’s book highlighting local features.
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and German from St. Olaf College, with an emphasis on Women’s Studies.
- Experience in donor database management and nonprofit administration (e.g., Minneapolis College of Art and Design).
- AmeriCorps volunteer service in St. Paul, Minnesota.
