Director, Community Marketing
Position Summary
Bentley is seeking a strategic, creative, and dynamic community marketing leader to help shape and execute the next evolution of our community experience.
Responsibilities
Translate Bentley’s community vision into a clear strategy, roadmap, and operating rhythm.
Develop a deep understanding of Bentley users, developers, and technical audiences, including where they already engage across Bentley-owned spaces, external communities, technical forums, practitioner networks, industry groups, peer communities, events, and in-person spaces.
Shape a connected community ecosystem that brings together the Communities Hub, user groups, developer programs, peer engagement, community-led content, in-person activations, and advocacy pathways.
Partner with the social media team to identify community-relevant social spaces and determine how Bentley can participate in ways that are credible, useful, and aligned to the broader social strategy.
Position the Communities Hub as a trusted front door where users can discover content, access resources, engage with Bentley, connect with peers, and participate in relevant programs.
Build a top-to-middle funnel community approach that supports discovery, education, engagement, peer connection, and long-term relationship building.
Serve as the corporate marketing point person for developer community engagement, partnering across product, developer relations and technical teams.
Scale and connect developer-focused initiatives such as DevDays, hackathons, technical community programs, and community hub experiences.
Work cross-functionally to improve the developer journey within Bentley and ensure technical audiences have clearer pathways to resources, programs, content, and connection.
Explore how AI can improve community discovery, onboarding, personalization, content recommendations, peer connection, support pathways, and insight generation.
Ensure Bentley’s community approach reflects where the company is going as a platform company in a world increasingly shaped by AI and open ecosystems.
Develop the strategy and execution plan for community-led programs across the Communities Hub, user groups, digital engagement, peer connection, meetups, and selective in-person activations.
Create a more connected model across community programs so they feel intentional, valuable, and aligned to broader customer engagement goals.
Lead and develop a small, high-impact team responsible for community programming, platform experience, and user group engagement.
Operate as a player-coach, setting clear priorities and standards while guiding the team toward strong execution.
Use community insights, feedback, and engagement patterns to inform programming, communications, product engagement, and future investment.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in community, community marketing, developer community, digital engagement, platform strategy, customer engagement, or related roles.
Proven experience building, scaling, or evolving community ecosystems across owned platforms, external communities, technical forums, user networks, events, and peer-led spaces.
Experience partnering with social, content, product, developer relations, and advocacy teams to engage audiences across both owned and external community touchpoints.
Experience in a platform, SaaS, developer, open ecosystem, open-source, startup, or scale-up environment is a plus.
Experience supporting developer or technical audience engagement through programs such as hackathons, DevDays, meetups, technical communities, user groups, or community platforms.
Experience using or exploring AI to improve community, digital engagement, content discovery, personalization, support, insights, or scalable user journeys.
Comfortable operating in build-mode: able to bring structure to ambiguity, move quickly, make thoughtful decisions with imperfect information, and refine as the strategy evolves.
Strong strategic operator who can take a broader vision, make it sharper, and translate it into a practical plan the team can execute.
Creative and outside-the-box thinker who brings fresh ideas while still creating focus and operational clarity.
Strong people leader who can coach a small team, set direction, and build momentum in a fast-moving, matrixed environment.
Strong communication and influence skills, with the ability to bring stakeholders along and make community feel strategically important.
