Community Dental Officer
Job Overview
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team. The successful candidate will have gained experience in a broad range of clinical skills in restorative dentistry, oral surgery, paediatric dentistry, community or special care dentistry and be confident in managing patients with these dental procedures and additional needs. They will be adaptable, motivated and be content working across sites with a variety of professional colleagues.
About the role
The successful candidate will provide a full oral examination and treatment plan for patients of all ages who appropriately access the Newcastle Community Dental Service for advice or treatment. They will provide and maintain a high standard of comprehensive dental care and provide emergency treatment where necessary either as sole treatment or part of a planned course of treatment.

Requirements
Essential criteria:
- BDS or equivalent primary dental qualification.
- Current full registration with the UK General Dental Council.
- Performer number with NHS England.
- At least 3 years postgraduate training, at least one year of which is in a relevant specialty.
Desirable criteria:
- Leadership and training experience.
- Higher Degree.
- Clinical Experience:
- Broad range of clinical experience in Restorative Dentistry and general dentistry.
- Experience in treating CDS patient groups or equivalent.
- Management and Administration Experience:
- Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce.
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development.
- Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance.

- Understanding of service and specialty goals.
- Teaching:
- Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Desirable criteria:
- Postgraduate qualification in medical education.
- Experience of supervising junior dental staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
- Research:
- Evidence of leading clinical audit.
- An understanding of Clinical Governance.
- Desirable criteria:
- Higher degree.
- Audit:
- Evidence of participation in audit.
- Desirable criteria:
- Higher degree.
- Publications in the last 2 years.
- Evidence of involvement in and understanding of research methodology and publication of findings.
- Research/critical review of literature essential.
