Key Responsibilities
- Obtains, retains knowledge of, and applies Federal Acts and State Statutes as well as contractual guidelines and restrictions across a large volume of collection matters for our Community Association clients.
- Prepares, reconciles, and maintains account balances in accordance with the collection authority provisions of the community’s governing documents as well as any limiting factors associated with federal and/or state guidelines.
- Works with and provides direct support to various Community Associations attorneys to draft legal communications, lawsuits, motions and other case filings while maintaining an index/tracking system to monitor and proactively move the matter through the collection process in a timely manner, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Creates reports and other documents for attorneys and clients based on case specifications and attorneys’ and clients’ requests.
- Buils and maintains professional relationships while regularly communicating with management companies as well as the Community Association clients’ Board members and personnel via email, telephone, and in-person.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining own organizational system to ensure deadlines are being met.
- Utilizes knowledge, research resources and existing case files to apply to pending matters.
- Maintains awareness of changes to guidelines or regulations and communicates findings to colleagues and attorneys.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and adaptability.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage heavy volume of work.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to retain and recall information quickly.
- Strong research skills, inference, deductive reasoning, and work ethic.
- Experience with document management software and aptitude for learning new software.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Timekeeping experience preferred.
Education and Experience
- 2-5 years professional office experience, preferably in a law firm environment.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certification and/or Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies.
- FDCPA: 1 year (Preferred)
- VA Courts: 1 year (Preferred)
