About the role
The Communications & Outreach Specialist supports the growth and visibility of Valley Medical Center (Valley) through strategic storytelling, multimedia content creation, provider outreach, community engagement, and patient marketing initiatives. This role develops compelling content and campaigns that increase awareness of Valley's programs and services while strengthening relationships with referring clinicians, community organizations, patients, and key stakeholders.
Working closely with leadership, clinicians, and operational teams, the Communications & Outreach Specialist produces a wide range of digital and traditional content—including videos, podcasts, social media content, website content, and marketing collateral—to support service line growth as well as patient engagement. The position also assists with provider outreach, community partnerships, and targeted patient communication campaigns to help drive access, referrals, and organizational growth.
Responsibilities
- Directly support communication and marketing priorities with a strong focus on growing access and awareness for assigned clinics, departments, or service lines.
- Produce multimedia content including videos, social media reels, podcasts, photography, newsletters, blog stories, patient testimonials, website content, presentations, and marketing collateral, ensuring messaging and brand standards are consistently met.
- Develop and execute communication plans and campaigns to generate growth of new programs and services.
- Identify, research, and develop compelling stories that highlight Valley providers, patients, services, programs, and community impact.
- Support podcast planning, guest coordination, recording, editing, promotion, and distribution.
- Create and maintain website content to ensure information remains current, accurate, and optimized for user engagement.
- Develop social media content and campaign assets that increase engagement and utilization of Valley services.
- Collaborate with leaders to identify content opportunities aligned with strategic growth priorities.
- Monitor content performance and audience engagement metrics and recommend opportunities for optimization.
- Ensure messaging is inclusive, clear, and appropriate for diverse audiences, including those with English as a second language.
- Collaborate with clinical, operational, and informatics teams to support patient outreach initiatives using Epic Cheers and other communication platforms.
- Support outreach efforts to referring providers and community clinicians to strengthen referral relationships and increase exposure of Valley services and specialists.
- Assist with provider communications, referral resources, educational materials, and outreach activities.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with departmental leaders, staff, providers, and community-based organizations.
- Represent Valley at community events, sponsorships, and outreach activities.
- Scope, schedule, and facilitate project meetings with stakeholders; coordinate resources and vendors; manage marketing and media projects from kickoff through completion.
- Maintain a database of current and archived marketing and communications projects.
- Partner with creative services, media agency, outreach, and philanthropy teams to support integrated campaigns, community engagement initiatives, events, and fundraising.
- Consult with leadership on effective messaging and brand alignment for the organization and community.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and organizational information and ensure compliance with privacy, security, and organizational policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field required. Four (4) or more years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, may substitute for degree requirements.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in communications, marketing, outreach, public relations, and/or media.
- Experience writing and creating digital content for healthcare, nonprofit, media, or corporate audiences preferred.
- Experience with video production, photography, podcast production, social media content creation, and content management systems (CMS) preferred.
- Strong understanding of social media strategy and content development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Experience coordinating community outreach, provider engagement, events, or relationship-building activities preferred.

- Exceptional written, verbal, and multimedia communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content across digital, print, social media, photography, video, and other multimedia platforms.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail; able to prioritize multiple initiatives, meet deadlines, and remain calm and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong storytelling skills with the ability to identify and develop engaging patient, provider, employee, and community stories.
- Able to facilitate the development and implementation of relevant messaging; integrates new ideas and strong creative to enhance communication/engagement efforts with staff, patients, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across departments and with community partners.
- Media and social media savvy with creative writing, photography, multimedia, and videography skills.
- Experience planning and coordinating events, presentations, community programs, and outreach initiatives.
- Ability to interview subject matter experts and translate complex information into engaging content for public audiences.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and community partners.
- Well-versed in video and audio editing software, website content management software such as Optimizely, and various social media tools/applications.
Pay
$34.98 - $50.72/hour, DOE
