Florida Atlantic University’s Office of Government Relations and Economic Development is seeking a Communication, Marketing, and Event Coordinator for Business and Economic Development in Boca Raton, FL. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for a creative professional who will drive the unit’s public presence, participant recruitment, and on-the-ground ambassadorship across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

About the role

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Business and Economic Development, the Coordinator designs and executes the unit’s integrated communications strategy; independently produces creative assets, campaigns, and collateral; plans and delivers workshops, trainings, and signature convenings; and manages marketing and event data to support grant reporting, funder compliance, and continuous improvement. The Coordinator serves as the creative engine and operational backbone ensuring the unit’s programs are seen, understood, attended, and remembered. Position is grant-funded through Sept 30, 2026, with renewal contingent on grant cycles.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Ownership of the Marketing and Communications Function
    • Design, execute, and continuously improve the integrated communications and marketing strategy for the unit and each of its programs, aligning with unit goals, grant deliverables, and strategic priorities of funders and the host institution.
    • Set the creative direction, editorial voice, and campaign calendar for unit-wide communications, ensuring consistency across programs and audiences.
    • Work directly with the AVP and program leadership to align messaging and creative strategy with unit priorities, program milestones, and reporting cycles.
    • Ensure every communication and marketing piece complies with Florida Atlantic University branding standards and co-branding, logo usage, and acknowledgment requirements of program sponsors and funders, including the SBA and DoW.
  • Creative Production and Content Development
    • Independently produce the full range of creative assets: flyers, one-pagers, brochures, digital ads, event graphics, presentation decks, video snippets, social media content, newsletters, email campaigns, web copy, signage, and event collateral.
    • Write, design, and adapt materials for multiple audiences (entrepreneurs, established businesses, manufacturers, procurement contractors, community partners, funders, and internal stakeholders) and, where appropriate, in both English and Spanish.
    • Manage the unit’s social media accounts and content calendars, ensuring consistent voice, active engagement, and timely posting across platforms.
  • Event Planning, Execution, and Participant Recruitment
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute the full lifecycle of the unit’s events, trainings, workshops, pitch sessions, reverse trade shows, and networking activities, including logistics, venue selection, vendor and sponsor coordination, registration management, run-of-show, and on-site delivery.
    • Own participant recruitment by designing and running outreach campaigns, referral partnerships, and audience-development tactics to hit or exceed target attendance for every event, workshop, and cohort.
    • Manage pre-event promotion and post-event follow-up in coordination with program staff to convert attendees into clients, referrals, or engaged community partners, including reporting and maintaining KPIs.
    • Attend and staff events on a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends, at locations across Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Requires business or business-casual attire and on-the-region travel.
  • Data Management, Reporting, and Grant Compliance
    • Manage all data related to marketing, communications, and events, including audience lists, campaign performance, registration and attendance records, and outreach touchpoints, aligned with a rigorous non-disclosure agreement and confidentiality policy.
    • Track and report on marketing and event metrics—social media engagement, campaign reach, email performance, event attendance, participant demographics, and outreach coverage—to support program dashboards, funder reporting, and grant compliance requirements.
    • Maintain an organized, accessible archive of marketing materials, event documentation, branded templates, photos, and video assets for use across the unit’s programs.
    • Ensure all activities are logged in required reporting platforms and partnership/outreach activity is documented for KPI and audit purposes.
  • Program Ambassadorship and Stakeholder Coordination
    • Serve as a public-facing ambassador for the unit’s programs at community events, partner meetings, chamber and municipal convenings, and outreach activities, representing the unit’s brand and value proposition with clarity and professionalism.
    • Build and maintain working relationships with program staff, consultants, external partners, sponsors, media contacts, and referral organizations to source content, confirm event details, and secure promotional support.
    • Represent the unit at trainings and outreach activities as required by program needs and actively cultivate new promotional and partnership opportunities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, or a related field and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four years in marketing, communications, or event coordination.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in design and content-creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva), social media management platforms, and email marketing systems.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
