About the role
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, Northern Alberta (CPAWS Northern Alberta) seeks a Communications Manager to lead the organization's external communications efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications and a passion for environmental causes.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute cross-channel communication campaigns aligned with CPAWS Northern Alberta’s strategic plan.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for various communication channels.
- Lead cross-channel initiatives to raise awareness and drive action for conservation issues in Alberta.
- Maintain and grow the organization’s social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok.
- Create and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to engage audiences and drive media coverage.
- Grow and maintain the chapter’s media contacts, develop relationships with media outlets, and assist in media interviews.
- Develop and distribute press releases, advisories, and op-eds as needed.
- Monitor media mentions and track relevant conservation news.
- Create and manage the CPAWS Northern Alberta newsletter, and oversee fundraising and advocacy email campaigns.
- Oversight of the CPAWS Northern Alberta website and microsites, including content development and improving website utility and visibility.
- Manage domain registration and oversee fundraising and partnership initiatives.
- Coordinate in-person and virtual events, including securing speakers and promotional materials.
- Develop and manage marketing and promotion budgets, including purchasing and managing digital advertising campaigns.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in communications or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing cross-channel communication campaigns.
- Familiarity with the non-profit sector and conservation sector.
- Experience in issue and political advertising regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster relationships with communities, governments, and the non-profit sector.
- Technologically savvy and proficient with social media platforms, Microsoft 365, Zoom, design software, and website management.
- Able to quickly learn and apply new digital tools and platforms to support digital communications and outreach.
- Availability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay
The salary range for the role is $65,000-70,000, depending upon experience.
Schedule
The position includes a four-day work week at 32 hours/week, with 3 weeks of vacation, personal/sick days, and an office closure during the winter holiday.
