Install, maintain, replace, and repair electrical and electronic communications equipment. Employees must comply with manufacturer’s weight limitations, including a 300 lb. safety rating for ladders (portable and affixed) and fall arrest equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules, regulations, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards
  • Install, maintain, replace, and inspect communication equipment such as cables, computers, printers, monitors, radios, telephones, modems, wireless components, security cameras, batteries, connectors, and testing equipment
  • Cut, splice, and pull cable on ground, poles, and towers
  • Use trenching equipment to bury equipment and cables
  • Receive and record inventory deliveries
  • Retrieve parts from inventory for installation and maintenance
  • Transport tools and equipment to job sites by truck
  • Install wiring in offices and field locations
  • Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Requirements

  • May require regional travel
  • Work safely to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, or safety-toe boots
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
  • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examinations
  • Successfully complete a background check
  • Pass all required assessments
  • Pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test
  • Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
  • This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement; membership is required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Must currently possess a CDL or obtain one within 90 days of start date
  • Must currently possess an FCC license or obtain one within 90 days of start date
  • Two years of experience in a communications-related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement
  • Two years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience in network management
  • FCC License

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
  • Climb ladders and poles up to 40 feet to make repairs, tests, and installations
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and climb

Skills

  • Verbal comprehension (understand oral and written communications)
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions and directions)
  • Reasoning skills (problem-solving and troubleshooting)
  • Basic math

Pay

$42.68 per hour. Pay rates may vary by location.

Training

Paid training as required by your collective bargaining agreement. Training may occur outside of your work location.
