Communications Lead
About the role
The Communications Lead will own Fonoa's voice—externally and internally. They will run media relations with tier-one and trade press, manage the company's social channels, coach executives and employees to build their own public presence, and own how Fonoa shows up at events, in all-hands meetings, and across every written surface that isn't the product.
This role sits at the intersection of story and strategy, working closely with the Product Marketing Lead on the underlying narrative, then pushing it into the world with consistency and velocity. They will enable founder-led, employee-amplified comms motion that makes Fonoa's voice recognizable and trusted across press, social, and internal channels.
Responsibilities
- Own relationships with tier-one and trade press, driving proactive story pitching and managing the full press cycle from planning through to coverage and follow-up.
- Work closely with the executive team to build a consistent public presence, supporting content creation and putting simple systems in place for employees to share what they are building.
- Lead communications for product and company launches, ensuring messaging, press outreach, internal alignment, and social amplification are well coordinated.
- Manage Fonoa’s company social channels, setting the tone, publishing content, and adjusting based on what performs.
- Use events as communication moments by shaping speaking narratives, preparing executives, and extending impact through press and social.
- Own internal communications, including all-hands and company updates, ensuring messages are clear, timely, and aligned with the external narrative.
- Partner with Product Marketing to carry the core narrative across all channels, maintaining consistency and using market and competitor signals to refine messaging over time.
What We're Looking For
- 6–10 years in B2B communications, with at least one stint in-house at a high-growth company.
- Direct experience operating a founder-led or employee-amplified comms motion.
- Proven ability to draft a press release, a tweet, an all-hands script, and an op-ed—all in the same week.
- Create and run a consistent system for executive communication, including content planning, drafting support, and performance tracking to ensure regular, high-quality output.
- Build simple tools and templates that enable employees to share what they are working on and drive natural engagement.
- Create a forward-looking media plan that aligns company milestones with the right journalists and outlets.
- Leverage events and speaking opportunities to drive clear communication moments for not just presence or visibility but for impact.
- Experience advising and coaching senior leaders on communication strategy and help adjust messaging.
Bonus:
- Experience operating at a company in the middle of a major repositioning—where messaging, press, and social all had to change at once.
- Prior experience briefing analysts or navigating category-creation moments.
