Communications Intern

Responsibilities

  • Aid AARP state offices in creating engaging, branded content for social media platforms, including graphics, videos, and posts.
  • Create brand-aligned graphic content to support internal communications, such as presentation decks, one-pagers, and other collateral items.
  • Support state office website updates and help maintain a consistent and user-friendly experience.
  • Contribute to state office advocacy and community engagement campaigns by designing templates, writing content, and collecting results for analysis.
  • Produce and edit digital videos for promotional and informational use.
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new ideas and ensure content aligns with brand guidelines.
  • Perform other tasks as needed to support SCE communication efforts.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university as rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or postdoctoral students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
  • Experience in creating and publishing social media content for Facebook and X, and familiarity with social media publishing platforms (e.g., Sprinklr).
  • Understanding of website management tools (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager) is a plus.
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., iMovie, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A creative mindset with attention to detail.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • A strong customer/client-service approach to supporting staff.

  • Home office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate home environment noise.

Compensation And Benefits

The hourly range is $18.40 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
