Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the Communications Manager to maintain and grow 18 Reasons' social media presence.
  • Create and schedule social media content, respond to comments and messages, and identify opportunities to increase engagement.
  • Design branded social media graphics, short videos, stories, and other digital content using Canva templates and other marketing design tools.
  • Build and send email newsletters using approved copy and templates; contribute original content for necessary email campaigns and other communications materials.
  • Maintain and organize 18 Reasons' photo, video, and testimonial library to ensure assets are easily accessible for communications and fundraising efforts.
  • Track and report on communications metrics, including email performance, website traffic, and social media engagement.
  • Help maintain a communications calendar to support consistent messaging across channels.
  • Represent 18 Reasons at events and other outreach opportunities to promote our programs and mission.
  • Assist the Special Events Manager with event preparation, guest management, volunteer coordination, registration, and event-day logistics.
  • Capture photos, videos, and stories at events for use in future communications.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about food, food justice, racial equity, community engagement, and communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an interest in storytelling and nonprofit marketing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Creative, curious, and eager to learn new communications and fundraising skills.
  • Comfortable using social media platforms for professional purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Experience, willingness, and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and ages.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and community outreach activities.
  • Helpful technical skills: Google Workspace, Canva or other design software, social media management tools, basic website content management systems, and familiarity with databases or CRM systems.
  • Photography, video editing, graphic design, or content creation experience is a plus but not required.

  • Contribute to the overall culture and growth of 18 Reasons by using our Culture Standards Guide as a tool for self-reflection, feedback, and ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in improvement projects, committees, and cross-department initiatives as needed.

  • $3,284 monthly living allowance, paid biweekly ($21.65/hour)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a computer the majority of the work day.
  • General office duties include: computer work, filing, phone communication, copying.
