Position Summary

To support the league's continued growth, the PWHL is seeking a passionate communications professional to serve as Communications Coordinator, playing a key role in supporting the PWHL's growing communications function with a focus on publicity and business communications. You'll help tell the story of one of the fastest-growing sports leagues in North America through exceptional writing, creative ideation, detailed execution, strong organization, and professionalism across media relations, publicity, and league events. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about growing the game and building a more equitable and inclusive future in the sport.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of communications strategies and storytelling for league and team initiatives across partnerships, marketing, merchandising, ticketing, and league personnel
  • Draft and edit communications materials including press releases, media advisories, talking points, bios, and messaging in alignment with PWHL brand standards and AP/CP style
  • Support influencer and celebrity relations programming, including identifying creators, pitching, drafting creator briefs, and tracking content
  • Track and lead campaign summaries and coverage reporting, providing insights and key learnings for internal stakeholders and league partners
  • Cultivate relationships with diverse local and national media outlets to expand audience reach and elevate brand visibility
  • Oversee corporate media list and monitor media coverage and trends to capitalize on story opportunities
  • Manage department calendars, notable dates, and key deadlines to support communications planning
  • Contribute to media operations for league events, including press conferences, Draft, Awards, and specialty games
  • Respond to media requests professionally and promptly, coordinating information fulfillment and interviews as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, media, sports management, or related field
  • Minimum of 1-2 years working in public relations, sports or entertainment media relations, communications, influencer programming, journalism, or related professional experience
  • Thorough understanding of public and media relations, including U.S./Canadian media landscapes, targeted pitching, and press operations
  • Proficient with computers and MS Office programs
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail for planning, editing, compiling stats, and fact checking
  • Ability to travel as needed for games and events
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support the dynamic nature of professional sports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the PWHL, hockey, and professional sports landscape, including game structure, terminology, and PWHL culture
  • Experience and/or strong interest in influencer programming, including identifying new creators across North America
  • Flexibility & Travel Candidate must be able to work remotely with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessitated by event schedules and project deadlines
  • Ability to travel as needed for games and events

Pay

The pay range for this position is $50,000 to $57,000 USD/CAD annually.

Schedule

This position may be based in either the United States or Canada.
