Communications Coordinator
TLA is the largest state library association in the U.S., representing nearly 5,000 members across academic, public, school, and special libraries. Founded in 1902, TLA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting libraries and supporting library professionals throughout Texas.
About the role
The Communications Coordinator develops and shares TLA’s message across digital and print channels to drive brand awareness, membership growth, and engagement. This position is based in Austin, Texas, and requires residence in the Austin/Central Texas area. A hybrid work schedule is offered, with a minimum of two in-office days per week. During peak periods, such as before the TLA Annual Conference, up to five in-office days may be required.
Responsibilities
- Write timely, creative, and engaging content, including press releases, e-newsletters, member communications, web content, blogs, and social media posts.
- Create and post content across all TLA social media channels; act as the organizational representative in online conversations.
- Monitor and support Unit social media accounts; provide training and support to members; conduct annual engagement reviews; ensure compliance with TLA policies.
- Track, analyze, and report on key social media metrics.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to develop and execute social media posts and digital ad campaigns for events, advocacy, and membership marketing.
- Maintain the TLA website; review and update content regularly; support volunteer web administrators and staff.
- Write and edit content for TLA publications, including a monthly e-newsletter, quarterly digital magazine, and other member communications.
- Write and create emails using TLA-branded templates; distribute communications based on an editorial calendar.
- Assist in managing TLA Engage, the association’s online members-only community; monitor posts for compliance; answer questions and provide member support.
- Support TLA reading list announcements by writing news releases, updating webpages, and sharing information on social media.
- Create graphics to support communications, events, programming, and organizational initiatives.
- Assist in fulfilling sponsorship and partnership agreements related to TLA’s communications channels.
- Provide general administrative support, including monitoring communications, managing the general email inbox, data entry, and reporting in Nimble AMS database.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, and networking in the library and association communities.
- Support communications and promotional efforts for advocacy initiatives, grants, statewide projects, and special campaigns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in communications or writing.
- 3–6 years of professional communications experience across multiple channels, with a track record of positive results.
- Creative problem-solver able to thrive in a collaborative, team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workflow, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CMS tools (WordPress), email marketing platforms, and databases.
- Basic graphic design experience (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Ability to interpret and implement association policies and procedures.
- Some travel required, including attendance at the annual conference.
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Experience working with associations or nonprofits preferred.

Pay
$61,000 to $66,000 per year, depending on experience.
