About the Role

The Communications Coordinator reports to the Parish Business Administrator and works closely with parish staff, ministry, and council leaders to design and deliver highly effective communication strategies. This role implements the pastor's plan for communications, stewardship, public relations, and special events while promoting involvement and investment in parish life. The Communications Coordinator is an enthusiastic leader capable of managing diverse teams, initiating and completing projects, and making timely, effective, and ethical decisions. This position is a creative self-starter who actively listens to all constituents, identifies mutual benefits, and communicates compellingly through writing and speaking.

The overarching goal is to bring others to Christ through parish communication, ministry, and outreach, ensuring Christ the King’s mission to grow the Body of Christ by Word and Sacrament is pursued with vigor and foresight. The role operates under direct supervision with latitude for independent judgment and creative initiative.

Ministerial Character

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish. This position helps extend the Pastor’s ministry by supporting and upholding the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the parish in both professional and personal life. The employee acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and continuously grows in ministry through participation in religious ceremonies, training, and reflection activities.

Responsibilities

  • Convey the message of Christ the King Parish through paper communication (bulletins, registration, information leaflets, newsletters) and digital platforms (website, online registration, email, Flocknote, Facebook, social media, blog).
  • Maintain the parish website and calendar with timely updates.
  • Collect and assess data and analytics to maintain effective communication within the parish.
  • Coordinate photography of parish events for promotional materials and maintain a collection of photos, graphics, and videos for digital content projects.
  • Attend staff meetings to stay informed about events, needs, and general parish operations.
  • Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to staff and parishioners.
  • Plan, coordinate, and organize major parish-wide events and activities.
  • Provide communications support for major parish stewardship development plans, including increased offertory, online giving, planned giving, capital campaigns, bequest expectancies, iGiveCatholic, and the Catholic Services Appeal.
  • Design and implement effective strategies, communication plans, and collateral materials for parish-wide events and stewardship projects.
  • Collect, edit, and design content and graphics for the weekly bulletin, then distribute it in print and electronically.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with bulletin publishers and other vendors.
  • Facilitate a collaborative ministerial environment by providing communications consultation and support to staff and ministry leaders.
  • Maintain, update, and promote parish-wide communications via channels such as pulpit announcements, Flocknote emails, myParish app, website updates, and Facebook.
  • Provide content to Catholic Spirit and maintain the parish email database.
  • Interface with the local community of Belton and Temple via newspaper and other media for special events, following diocesan guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain parish branding consistency across all media platforms and published materials.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Requirements

  • Expertise in conducting detail-oriented project management and process improvement strategies.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams to reach common goals and objectives.
  • Expertise in clear and effective written and verbal communications for various audiences.
  • Expertise in event management to plan, organize, and conduct small and large-scale events and fundraising activities according to parish and diocesan guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of web design, web tools, social media, and analytic metrics.
  • Broad knowledge of software programs for graphic design, word processing, project management, communications, and photography processing to create collateral materials (bulletins, web content, posters, brochures, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively with the pastor, deacons, staff, diocesan staff, and parishioners to ensure communication flows throughout the parish.
  • Ability to bring creative solutions to challenges and think critically to resolve problems.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain respect at all times and follow instructions in verbal or written format.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including some weeknights and weekends.
  • Proficiency in English (conversing, reading, and writing).
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Fluency in Spanish (speaking and writing) is a plus but not required.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout employment.

Working Conditions

All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry. The Parish is an at-will employer. The role requires adherence to established dress codes and conduct standards.
