About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review design documents, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and manage third-party commissioning vendors in the performance of onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
  • Take ownership of project successes by resolving technical issues and addressing schedule and coordination demands onsite.
  • Communicate lessons learned and collaborate on program improvements.
  • Provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
  • Review component submittal packages, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and perform system-level and integrated system testing.
  • Audit activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive weekly reporting of project status and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure issues have clear paths to resolution across AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams.
  • Manage project commissioning vendors to identify issues, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document findings.
  • Escalate risks to project turnover to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate lessons learned post-project completion and participate in initiatives to improve the commissioning program.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of relevant discipline work experience.
  • High technical competency in mechanical, electrical, or control systems utilized in critical infrastructures, with the capability to learn and be trained in the others.
  • Ability to understand design concepts and intent by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and sequences of operations.
  • Develop and review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports to ensure accuracy in accordance with design requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for up to 80% of the year.
  • Required to provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office (reimbursed).
  • US Citizenship required.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain.
  • Work at heights and from ladders.
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
  • Carry objects weighing up to 49 pounds for short distances.
  • Work shifts longer than eight hours in duration, with potential for night and weekend work.
  • Perform physical tasks throughout the day without becoming overly tired.
  • Manipulate small wires and objects easily.
  • Work in noisy, cold, or hot environments outside of a normal office setting.

Qualifications

  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); advanced knowledge of SharePoint (or similar) preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work in high-stress environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
  • Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).

About the Team

The AWS Data Center Commissioning Team (ACx) is a wholly independent business within the DCGS organization. This team of veteran professional Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Controls Engineers, Architectural Engineers, Project Managers, Operators, and seasoned Amazonians provides deeply detailed engineering and operational review and testing of equipment designs, operational functionality, and construction practices. The team focuses on ensuring rapid delivery of a quality product while maintaining full transparency, recording metrics of manufacturer/contractor/equipment issues, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is:

  • USA, GA, Atlanta: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
  • USA, NC, Charlotte: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Austin: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Dallas: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
  • USA, TX, Houston: $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
